I am David McVean planning a genealogy trip to Scotland from Minnesota USA on 5-28-08. My kin were part of the early Highland clearance around 1785 to Canada and New York. I would like to hear from anyone that can help me locate any of the surname, Dead or Alive, Bean, Bain, McVean, McBean, MacVean, MacBean, McBain, Fletcher, McDermid, McDiarmid, McIntyre, McColl, Campbell.
Places of origin and those my wife and I will visit. Perth, Killin, Dores, Dingwal, Culloden, Batavaime, Inverness, Narin, Kenmore, Callander.
Please feel to pass on to others that can help. You can help me put together a genealogy book with these surnames.
    Thanks very much.

    Morning Dave,
David McVean from Cloquet Minnesota USA.
I did receive your response from the Killin Blog.
I am very excited to learn what you have.
We are close to leaving for England where my dad is buried and Scotland.
My wife and I maintain a McVean genealogy web site if you ever think it might be of use, please let me know and I will send you the URL.
I don’t recall if you live in Scotland but it is our intension to visit my surname’s first homestead at Batavaime and the Tulloch castle which was in the family back around 1400.
It has been impossible to find any living Mc’s on the internet because of the privacy laws in the UK. No phone or city directories listed to call any Mc’s. Do you have any idea’s as to how my wife and I could research and contack any Mc’v before leaving for Scotland? I am becoming a little disappointed that I have not been able to contact any of my kin in Scotland. Here in the US it is very easy to find that kind of info.
Therefore we have not been able to make contact with a single relative.
We have ton’s of the dead Mc’s.
I look forward to hearing from you.
    Best Regards
    David W McVean dwmcvean@aol.com

    Hey Dave,
I sent you info. to your aol. address. so I assume your at a work e-mail address.
I did get the word doc. open and was pleasantly supprised.
Not sure how comfortable you feel but for confidentially reasons do you preferr I e-mail you Where? aol., or sky? I did add you to my AOL IM list.
Do you live in Glasgow or Perth, that you have McVean’s in your area, because I would like to visit with some if at all possible.
I assume you read Gallic as well as speak? I will be making headstone rubbings of McVea’s in Gallic but don’t read or speak Gallic.
Is there any research that I can do for you while in the Killin area in May and June?
    God Bless the Clan’s Dave

Try http://www.infobel.com/en/UK/ for finding UK phone numbers.

    Good morning to you Jim,
David McVean in Sunny but cold Minnesota US
Thanks very much for the link above.
For some reason it only lets me look up businesses.
Tried three times with same results.
That has been my experience with all my efforts to use your phone directory’s.
Word search engine do not load any web pages that contain personal addresses, phone or e-mail for the UK.
Maybe something to do with the UK anti terrorism or privacy laws.
From the states it has not been possible to research anything but businesses in the UK.
Even though the link shows that you can do a residential listing search, it will not provide any thing.
Perhaps if I were actually in the UK then I might be able to, but nothing else seems to work from the states.
Thanks very much for your efforts. I really appreciate your trying to help the Clan.
God Bless the Clan. David W McVean Perhaps we shall see you in June 08
