Can anyone remember the white wooden cross that was nailed quite high up on the Chestnut tree at the end of the Acharn Farm road end. Before the road was upgraded this was a sharp bend. This was in the 70s and was up for years………………. What was it all about, anyone remember? It was a topic of conversation in the pub last night.
    Cheers, Coonball

Coonball; I always had understood that it was put up by the Ghurkas when some of them were stationed in the area during WWII. However I called Uncle Douglas at Easter Lix to confirm, and apparently Dad and him put it up in the 1950’s with regard to showing support for the SNP !!!. Best etc etc. Sandy W.
