I came to Killin for Summer holidays with my parents in 1967 & 1968. During my1st holiday I called in at the general store many times and chatted to the store owner. He was always very friendly, good humoured & fascinating to talk to and had plenty of time for people generally, whether you were buying anything or not. I also rememberthinking he was quite famous as there was a postcard of him holding a salmon he had cught in Loch Tay.
When we returned to Killin in1968 the first thing I did was to go round to the store to see my friend, only to find out he had died.
Whenever I think of Scotland I remember Killin and it’s friendly people, but in particiular the store owner.
Sadly I lost the postcard many years ago & cannot remember his name.

Can anybody put a name to the memory?

was it Arthur Foster who used to own the post office when it was based in Craigbuie? I seem to have a vague recollection of a postcard or photo with him holding a salmon. think it was taken outside the paper shop. Ian – does your memory go back that far!

From memory Danny Campbell was taller and thinner than Arthur Foster. Where can I see the photo?

Spoke to Dochy MacNee yesterday and he can vaguely remember a photo of Arthur Foster with a salmon.

Also spoke to Ian MacGregor about this and he remembers a picture of Arthur Foster holding a salmon.

Looks like we have a probable ID for the mystery man!

just another option – i was wondering if it was Peter Ross with a salmon? Or perhaps i’m thinking of the card with Peter Ross and Paddy’s Mum, Mrs Smith?
